It was through the practice of hatha yoga that I became aware of interconnections between my physical, mental, spiritual, and emotional being. Fostering a yoga practice can be a useful compliment to engaging in the somatic counseling journey. I am a Certified Forrest Yoga teacher, and offer group classes as well as private instruction in Bellingham.
Forrest Yoga is a deep and dynamic yoga practice created by Ana Forrest to address her own physical and emotional challenges. I completed the Foundations Teacher Training with Ana Forrest in 2009. I teach Forrest Yoga because of its inclusion of the emotional experience, close attention to posture sequencing, centering at the core, sensitivity to individual body needs, exploration of postures through deep breath and extensive holds, playfulness, and way of working with edges compassionately. Forrest Yoga encourages students to experience their practice in a non-habitual way, heightening awareness by bringing new oxygen, blood flow, and perspective to each moment.
Forrest Yoga class is open to all levels. I focus on meeting students where they are. In this class, we learn to breathe, focus on alignment, develop core strength and awareness, shed self-imposed boundaries, thoroughly explore and experience postures through deep breathing and long holds, and we play. Forrest Yoga is particularly adept at healing back pain, opening the neck, shoulders, and hips, and fostering empowerment and compassion within oneself. Intermediate students explore a variety of inversions and hand/arm balances, among other postures. Each class is original and has a distinct theme and semblance of postures. Please contact me with questions.
